Hair transplant in
Kolkata has evolved in terms of technology and methods drastically
in the past 20 years. The number of hair transplant cases has also increased a
lot over the years. Just couple of decade ago common people cannot even think
of hair transplant because of its huge costing. It was limited to celebs only.
With technical up-gradation, increased number of cosmetic surgeons and skilled
technician hair transplant has become quite affordable now.
Though
it’s a current trend, the process of hair transplantation was introduced long
ago. Dr. Shoji Okuda in 1939 first introduced hair transplant on trauma patient and published a
journal. The attempt was not so successful. After 3-4 method updation, in 1995 Dr Bernstein and Dr
Rassman has introduced FUT (follicular
unit transplantation) procedure.
Though Dr Masumi Inaba from Japan has introduced
the use of mm needle for collecting follicular units, the official use of FUE (Follicular Extraction Unit) procedure
starts from early 2000. In this
procedure of surgery stereo microscopic graft dissection is used to collect
follicular units from the donor area. In present time, we have many hair
transplant clinic in Kolkata where you can avail both the
method depending on few medical factors.
PRE-OPERATIVE PROCEDURE AND INSTRUCTIONS
FOR HAIR TRANSPLANT:
The pre-operative procedure means the
necessary things to do before your surgery; which includes –
• The patient must arrive at the hospital by
the correct time given by the management staff of the hospital.
• The patient must have a good shower, and the
scalp should be washed by shampoo on the day of surgery.
• The patient must take a normal breakfast
avoided greasy or heavy food, for example, cereals, butter, and orange juice.
• The patient is not allowed to drink alcohol 14
days before the surgery. If the patient found drunk the surgery will be
cancelled.
• Medicines like ibuprofen, Motrin, aspirin is
strictly prohibited 10 days before the surgery.
• All necessary blood tests need to be done
before surgery.
• The scalp should be properly shaved.
PROCEDURE OF THE SURGERY:
FUE (FOLLICULAR UNITS EXTRACTION)-
• The donor and the recipient area will be numb
by the doctor using local anaesthesia.
• The doctor will remove the follicles
individually using a round punch.
• Now the transplant area is prepared using a
fine surgical blade.
• The follicles and now placed into small holes
in the transplant area.
• The grafts are blended to match the natural
hair growth pattern.
• Generally, after an hour of the surgery you will
be discharged.
FUT (FOLLICULAR UNITS
TRANSPLANTATION)
• To numb your scalp local anaesthesia will be
given by your doctors.
• About two millimeters will be trimmed to in
the donor site.
• A strip of skin with hair follicles will be
cut out from the donor area by the surgeon. That will be used as grafts.
• Individual hair follicles from the graft are
removed by a technician for transplantation.
• Surgeon will close the scalp using sutures.
• Then the hair follicles are inserted in a
pattern into the balding part of your scalp to look natural.
POST-OPERATIVE PROCEDURE AND INSTRUCTIONS
FOR HAIR TRANSPLANT:
Post-operative
means the necessary things to do after your surgery which includes-
• Keeping the area moist.
• For the first night, you have to sleep at an
angle of 45 degrees slightly with head up to minimize swelling.
• Take anti-inflammatory medicines prescribed
by a doctor, it will minimize swelling and pain.
• To soothe the area ice bags can be used.
• Do not exercise, as it will lead to scalp
pain and swelling of your face.
THE HAIR TRANSPLANT TIMELINE:
•
Day1 – numbness on the scalp.
•
Day 2 – redness may occur.
•
Day 7- swelling and redness are reduced.
•
Day 10- now the grafts are in a good place.
•
Week 2 – implanted hairs shedding takes place.
•
Week 3 – shedding a lot of hair takes place.
•
1 month – the follicles which were grafted enters the resting phase.
•
2-5 months – the growth of transplanted hair takes place.
•
6-9 months- the hair becomes thick.
•
1-2 years- the hair looks natural.
